Beware of Fake “COD5″ Beta Invites

FourZeroTwo has made a post about a fake CoD5 beta invite, please read up so you are not owned by this.

This is a bit more widespread than I originally thought when I sent out the warning on twitter (@fourzerotwo and @Infinity_Ward) earlier today, but there is a FAKE email going out to people which appears to come from COD5BETA@infinityward.com (see above).

If you receive one, just delete it. Don’t open it, reply, or click any links - it’s fake and could contain a virus or be an attempt to phish personal information. The body of the email is an exact replica of the one I sent out during the COD4 Beta, except they’ve replaced all references of Call of Duty 4.

For the record, there is no beta. Believe me, if we were having a beta, I’d be screaming it from every internet rooftop from Twitter to Forums. We have yet to even officially announce our next project, let alone a beta for it. Although, it is kind of flattering to think Spammers think a beta for our next game is luring enough to get people to open. WATCH OUT Penis Enlargement spam mail, there’s a new kid on the block!

    You have been warned.

Maybe he's saying "5" b/c CoD:WaW did not officially have a number attached to it.

But neither does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The important thing is not to fall for the email. Whether it be CoD5 or CoD4:MW2. These fakers are just using the confusion and new game of CoD5/WW to help get people to believe it.

LOL. Crunch may have been joking, but from the news article a couple weeks back, it sounds like they're dropping the "4", and that it will be COD:MW2.

Were they even considering the 4 at first...oh jeez lol.

                  Think of future CoD's...

Call of Duty: Returning to the Final Fight for the Very Last Time in World War II

                  CoD:RttFFftVLTiWWII

Granted, I know you wouldn't necessarily include the articles in the name, but still, rofl!

I doubt it. "Call of Duty 4: 2" wouldn't have made much sense. I think Activision likely realized that, which is probably why World at War didn't get a numbering system. They probably decided to make a clean break/separate the genres with words, and start over with the numbering. If/when COD goes "future-war", I'd guess that they'll probably do the same.
